I enjoy watching, listening, and reading your thoughts…appreciate your genuine enthusiasm and optimism. I’m an advocate of kids playing multiple sports—my advice to any kid is to play what you LIKE until doing so becomes an obstacle to doing what you LOVE.
The only argument I’d make against what you stated is that most special athletes were special before they did multiple sports. Their natural athletic abilities enabled them to compete across multiple sports more easily than kids that didn’t possess the same abilities. Playing multiple sports; however, had a huge impact on them staying healthier, developing a broader aptitude for competition, and many other attributes that coaches/talent evaluators seek.
Especially now, for this giant cohort of kids that were negatively and irrevocably impacted by the pandemic, we need more people to encourage participation in all the things—athletic and other extracurricular! Thank you for doing so.
